Fullerton has a strong preservation community around its historic downtown, and those old Craftsman bungalows from the 1910s through 1930s are genuinely beautiful homes. The garages on these properties were often added decades after the home was built, which means non-standard framing, tight header clearances, and hardware that doesn't always line up with current catalog specs. Raymond Hills, the upscale neighborhood in the hills north of the city, has larger custom homes with more substantial garage setups. The tracts near Cal State Fullerton from the 1950s through 1970s are the bread-and-butter two-car attached garage work — springs, openers, standard everything. And the newer developments near the Brea foothills are newer hardware that's now hitting the age where original components start failing on schedule.
Spring replacements are the most common call in Fullerton, especially on the older tracts where hardware hasn't been touched since the '80s or '90s.
